Stylish Dining Room Design Ideas
I never thought of the dining room as a room that needs much attention when decorating it. A table and a set of chairs is all the dining room needs, right? Maybe, if you’re living in the era of a few centuries ago when the dining room was the place when bread and salt were consumed for bare existence. Today, the dining room has a story of its own; it’s not just the room where you eat your bacon and eggs in the morning, it’s the room where you host dinner parties for friends and family, where you and your friends gather for a game of cards, chess or other entertainment. Having this wide range of activities, you can do in the dining room, when decorating it, start with choosing modern dining furniture.
Where do you start?
Before you go and buy modern dining furniture, you should analyze the surrounding environment: floors, colour of walls, layout of windows, lighting and other furniture, especially if the dining room is connected with the living room and the kitchen. If that’s the case, you should look for something that will be compatible with the rest of the furniture in colour and materials. You don’t want to make your house a furniture exhibition hall. Here are a few ideas you can work with:
- 1. Traditional style dining room
This is most suitable if you’ve chosen to style your entire house with classic furniture. This means the dining room furniture should be furnished from warm wood with rich crown molding. Usually, the walls in this dining room will be beige, warm brown, Bordeaux, or in royal green, as everything in this dining room should point to a certain degree of royalty. You don’t need a lot of decorations for this room; the furniture is decorative enough. If you choose to add some, though, choose candles. Simple, white tall candles in royal-y candle holders. Add a glass chandelier for the complete royal look.
- 2. The elegant dining room
It doesn’t differ much from the dining room in traditional style. In this room, you’d find a lot of modern dining furniture, not just the table and the chairs. The lighting elements are also very elegant, and the colours that dominate are black and white. If there’s another colour present it will be an accompanying one. Also, you’ll see flower arrangements here, usually fresh roses.
- 3. Think hipster style
The hipster movement is having its 5 minutes on the scene. Hipsters are no slaves to trends; they create their own trends. Everything that has meaning and story is appealing to them. This movement has its expression in interior design as well. So why not design your dining room in the hipster spirit? You don’t need to add a lot of elements; the walls need to be covered with framed quotes of famous musicians, actors, painters. The furniture can be vintage; hipsters love everything with value. Attach a fancy clock on the wall, and add fresh flowers in the room; any flower would be great. Make sure you don’t close the windows with curtains; you need a lot of natural sunlight.
- 4. Scandinavians know how
Scandinavians are known for their capability to combine simplicity, trends and quality and create an ultra modern and highly functional finished product. Case and point – IKEA. All that snow and cold weather play their role in the warm tone a Scandinavian dining room has. The table and the chairs will be simple and made of high-quality materials, like wood or metal. Colours will be bright and well combined with the walls and other surrounding environments. There won’t be many decorations in a Scandinavian dining room; simplicity is key. Pieces of material like animal leather or fur can be added to cover the chairs. Lots of natural lights.
